By the End of Q2 2024, the Share of Kazakhstani Polypropylene on the Market Could Exceed 75%
This estimate was presented in a report by the Director of Marketing and Sales of Kazakhstan Petrochemical Industries Inc., Danila Mogilevtsev, during the “Oil and Gas Market of Kazakhstan and Central Asia 2024” conference organized by Argus in Almaty on June 20-21 this year.

Until 2022, the polypropylene market in Kazakhstan was highly dependent on imports, with import shares ranging from 60% to 95%. However, since the launch of the KPI Petrochemical Complex, this dependency has significantly decreased. The growth of the polypropylene processing industry in the country by the end of 2024 could reach 6% year-on-year, totaling 45.5–46 thousand tons, setting a new record for the domestic processing industry.

KPI continues to actively develop its range of produced polypropylene grades. Currently, 7 different grades have been mastered (4 of which were previously not produced in the Republic of Kazakhstan). Despite the current grade assortment already meeting the needs of all processing segments within the country, the company plans to expand its grade portfolio to 11 to meet the demand from both local and international markets.

Additionally, KPI is implementing a number of initiatives to improve customer service levels. For the convenience of its partners, KPI provides technical service to its customers, assisting in the setup of polymer processing modes and offering specialist consultations to improve customer production efficiency. Furthermore, in May 2024, a warehouse was opened in Almaty, reducing the delivery times of KPI products to customers in the south of the country from 10-14 days to 1-2 days.

In conclusion, Danila Mogilevtsev emphasized the importance of the four "Forsazh" Programs aimed at achieving accelerated growth in polymer processing in Kazakhstan.

The "Forsazh" Programs include measures available to all KPI polymer consumers, promoting the utilization of processing capacities, increasing exports of domestic goods, import substitution, and the adoption of advanced processing technologies.

KPI is proud of its achievements and continues to make significant contributions to the development of Kazakhstan's petrochemical industry. Participation in events like the Argus conference helps strengthen partnerships, share best practices, and find new growth and development pathways.
