As part of a working visit to the Atyrau Region, Askhat Khassenov, Chairman of the Management Board of KazMunayGas (KMG), held a cluster meeting to discuss the performance of KMG’s key oil refining and petrochemical assets. The discussion mainly focused on improving operational efficiency, increasing the share of light petroleum products, and enhancing refining depth.
In the first half of 2025, Kazakhstan’s three leading oil refineries demonstrated strong growth. The total volume of oil processed reached 8.83 million tonnes, an increase of 685,000 tonnes compared to the same period in 2024. Approximately 6.84 million tonnes of light petroleum products (gasoline, diesel, aviation fuel, and others) were produced 893,000 tonnes (4.44%) more than in the previous year. The combined refining depth across the three refineries reached 89.61%, with a light product yield of 77.53%. At the same time, process fuel combustion and irrecoverable losses were reduced by 0.78%, or 7,333 tonnes.
The Atyrau Refinery processed nearly 2.89 million tonnes of crude oil. The plant achieved a refining depth of 88.7% and a light product yield of 77.29%. Notably, as of May 1, 2025, the refinery reduced its processing tariff from KZT 54,450 to KZT 47,000 per tonne. This decision, made possible by optimizing the loan repayment schedule, helps create a more level playing field for all market participants. The Chairman of KMG was also briefed on the ongoing modernization of the delayed coking unit and preparations for scheduled maintenance.
